Dyer St./Whipple Rd. Intersection Repaving

Union City motorists are being notified of plans to close the Whipple Road and Dyer Street intersection for roadway improvement work. To minimize the impact on traffic, the repaving work will take place between the hours of 10:00 pm and 5:00 am on Wednesday April 30th and Thursday May 1st . The intersection will be closed off to traffic and freeway detour signs will be put up to assist commuters.

Help Plan Your City's Future
Union City is updating its General Plan and we’re looking for motivated, creative, and civic-minded individuals to serve on the Union City General Plan Advisory Committee. The committee's mission will be to assist the City in providing input on the draft General Plan to ensure that it accurately reflects the vision and goals of the community.  The General Plan focuses on issues that impact the community including land use, circulation and mobility, health and safety, natural resources, economic development, and sustainability.

Stakeholder Meeting on City's Housing Needs

The City of Union City is updating its Housing Element. Please join us at a Stakeholder Meeting to share your ideas for how we can improve housing opportunities in Union City. 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on April 26th

Youth and Family Services (YFS) announces its 3rd Annual Basketball Tournament at Contempo Park in Union City. It's scheduled for April 26 and registration is free. Age brackets are 12 to 14 years of age, 15 to 18 yrs and 19 to 24 years old. Coed teams are welcome. For more info call (510) 675-5816. Union City Leisure services announces its spring schedule for our popular aquatics program. Swimming classes are available for all ages. Lap swim and recreational swim are also available at the Dan Oden Swim Complex, across the street from James Logan High School.

New Emergency Notification System for Union City
Union City has joined forces with CityWatch® Notification Systems to send out mass notifications of emergencies, to provide critical information or to ask for public help. A notification may be limited to a specific geographic area or sent Citywide. Information sent may include the description of a lost child, the need to evacuate, or advisement of police or fire activity in your area.

Second Quarter Parking Permits
Now available for purchase online are the latest Area S and Area M parking permits, which are valid through June 30, 2014. Area S permits provide unlimited parking in four locations within a short walking distance of the BART station. The Area M parking permit is for Station Center residents and retail tenants who have more than one car. A permit costs $120 for three months, or only about $2.00 per commute day.

Program Helps Low Income Conserve Water
Alameda County Water District has launched a new program promoting water conservation while also helping low-income households save money on water bills. The Water Savings Assistance Program includes free installation of high efficiency toilets, showerheads and faucet aerators, installed at no cost to the homeowner. All in-home services will be provided by a licensed plumbing contractor.

Recognized Obligation Payment Schedules

As required by State law, the Recognized Obligation Payment Schedule (ROPS) lists all enforceable obligations listed that are legally binding and enforceable agreements or contracts of the former City of Union City Redevelopment Agency, including those necessary for the continued administration of the Successor Agency to wind down the former Agency. The Initial ROPS and each subsequent ROPS are intended to be forward looking to the next six months.

Communication Tool for Union City Residents
As part of the City’s on-going social media and community engagement efforts, we have launched Nixle to inform residents, businesses, and visitors about Union City Police Department communications. Nixle is a provider of mass notification services for public safety and is used by over 4,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide. The free public notification service allows government organizations to securely communicate with the public via text/SMS, e-mail, social media, and internet posts.  To receive alerts via email and text, you can by log on to http://www.nixle.com/ or  send a text message with Union City’s zip code (94587) to 888777.

Residents Asked to Cut Water Use by 20%
We are currently experiencing the worst drought in California’s recorded history.  The Governor recently declared a drought emergency, and in response the Alameda County Water District is asking all residents of Union City, Newark and Fremont to voluntarily reduce water use by 20%.

Today, citizens can use their smart phones to point, click and submit requests and feedback directly from their smart phones to the City. Citizens using Android and Apple mobile phones can communicate first-hand, their requests with supporting photographs and notes to illustrate the issue. Citizens can also check the updated status of their requests 24x7 via their smart phone. This new technology improves the community by yielding better information from citizens and also helps keep the City informed on issues of importance to citizens. The application is easily downloaded from the Apple and Android App Stores, simply search Service UC and scroll to find Union City.

Second Annual Larry "O" Car Show
The Second Annual Larry "O" Car Show is set for Saturday, August 9, from 9 am to 3pm at the Ruggieri Senior Center, 33997 Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City. This free event features music, prizes, a bounce house, classic cars, trucks and bicycles. For more information about car registration, please call (510) 675-5495.
